Overbounce in the Central Room

Demo : download demo for defrag

Note : overbounces can't be done in CPMA. No weapons needed.

proq3dm6

There's no special knowledge or movement skill required for an overbounce, at least if you know a place where you can do one ;-). Here is how you do this one :

- Get into the central MH room of the map at A and look into the direction of the jumppad at B.

- Walk into the direction of the jumppad and jump on it, start pressing the BACKWARDS key and don't let go off it until you hit the wall behind you at C. You should NOT look in the direction of the wall, just let your back bang against it.

- Don't press any other key and let go off the BACKWARD key (you may remove all your fingers from the keyboard, clap your hands or whatever). You should fall down until you hit the floor at D and then bounce off the floor and into the air again.

- When you start going up again, use any movement keys of your choice and your aircontrol to land at a decent location, E will do fine.

Overbounce in the Pillar Room

Demo : download demo for defrag

Note : overbounces can't be done in CPMA. No weapons needed.

proq3dm6

There's no special knowledge or movement skill required for an overbounce, at least if you know a place where you can do one ;-). This one requires a bit more aircontrol skill than the one described above, but it's not that hard.

- Get into the pillar room of the map at A.

- Walk into the direction of the jumppad at B and jump on it, then use aircontrol to turn left and move backwards while in the air, you should now look at the corner where the outer wall of the map hits the platform the jumppad leads up to and be on your way down.

- Press the forward key while falling to move into the corner between the tho walls, the let go off ALL keys BEFORE you hit the ground at position D.

- You should not move into any direction but down when you hit the ground, then bounce off the floor. Once you're airborne again, pick a landing spot of your choice. E is fine.

Plasma Climbing

Demo : download demo for defrag

Note : You can easily do this one in vq3, cpma, osp or whatever. It seems to be easiest in defrag and hardest in plain vq3 because you are loosing more and more speed while going upwards in vq3. You need a PG.

proq3dm6

Plasma climbing is not very difficult. Just follow these lines and you'll get this trick done in less than 5 minutes.

So here we go :

- Get into the central room to A with a plasma gun, health and some armor - this will hurt you a bit ;-)

- Look at the wall and run into it untill the wall stops you. Keep the FORWARD key and do not let go off it for this whole exercise. Make sure you don't move to the left or right.

- You have equipped the plasma gun already, haven't you? Fine.

- Look down and point you cross hair at the point where the floor hits the wall. Then move the cross hair a little bit up so that it points at the lower part of the wall.

- You're still pressing FORWARD, remember? OK. Then let's start : Press the JUMP key and start firing that gun at the wall. Keep pressing FORWARD and ATTACK!

You should start moving up the wall and your health and armor should start decreasing rapidly :-). Enjoy. You may need want to check out a lower wall first and maybe find the position for your crosshair that best fits your needs.

Plasma Sliding

Demo : download demo for defrag

Note : You can easily do this one in vq3, cpma, osp or whatever. PG needed.

proq3dm6

Plasma climbing is not very difficult and is described above. This trick adds strafe movements to control the direction and to move to the left/right instead of going upwards only.

- Start next to the door at the second level of the map, (above the LG room) at A and grab your PG

- Look and run against the wall as described above, start plasma-walking up the wall.

- After passing B, start moving the mouse a bit to the left and press the right STRAFE key. Keep shooting, pressing forward and STRAFE RIGHT. You should move along the wall to the right and gain speed.

- When you reach the end of the wall at C, your speed should be enough to pass the gap and land at D. This is the place where the jumppad that leads up to the rail takes you.

Grenade-Rocket Combo in the Central Room

Demo : download demo for defrag

Note : You can do this in whatever mod you like. GL and RL needed.

proq3dm6

- Select the GL and stand at the edge of the RL-jumppad at position A. Target the lamp on the wall in the central room that's marked with T and fire a grenade (Point your crosshair directly at the lamp).

Hint : Watch the path of the grenade when you do this for the first time : it should hit the floor at F, bounce off and hit the wall at W, then bounce off again into the middle of the room. It should explode at C. The blue line in the image marks the path of the grenade.

- Directly after firing the grenade, jump down to a place near B and switch to the RL. Run in a half circle to position C and do a Rocket Jump at C at the very moment the grenade explodes. Align yourself properly before doing the jump and use aircontrol to land at position D.

Grenade-Plasma Combo, straight line

Demo : download demo for defrag

Note : you'll need the Grenade Launcher, a Plasma Gun, Health and Armor.

proq3dm6

- This is gonna hurt, so get some H/A. Then make your way to position A in the pillar room and make sure you have assigned keys that are easily reachable on the keyboard for the PG and the GL.

- Move into the corner at A and look against the outer wall, not against the pillar. Now look down at your feet, select the GL and fire a grenade at your feet. The grenade should bounce off the floor, up into the air and then down again.

- Switch to the PG directly after shooting the grenade, and look a bit to the left by moving your mouse in that direction. Point your crosshair a bit above the ground at the wall, as described above in the Plasma Climbing Howto.

- Just before the grenade explodes start running to the right and jump immediately afterwards. Start firing the PG at the same time and keep pressing FORWARD, STRAFE RIGHT and FIRE.

- The explosion of the grenade should push you upwards and to the right. The effect should get amplified by the plasma slide you are performing and take you past the gap where the wall ends at C and up to position D near the RL, your landing point for this exercise.

Grenade-Plasma Combo, circle

Demo : download demo for defrag

Note : a bit harder than the last one, will consume *some* health. PG and GL needed.

proq3dm6

- Make sure you're getting the PG/GL Combo described above done before trying this one. Then go to the stairs underneath the bridge in pro-q3dm6.

- Look against the wall at A and fire the GL

- Switch to PG and start to go strainght upwards for about a second when the grenade explodes. You should move up *very* fast due to the power of the explosion.

- Start a Plasma Slide to the right and gain enough speed to cross the gap at C and to land directly on the bridge at position D, near the RL. The place were you should find yourself now happens to be the starting position for what may be the coolest jump in a vq3 map. See below and get ready.

Bridge to Rail

Demo : download demo for defrag

Note : I suggest you practise this in CPMA or defrag first. No weapons needed.

proq3dm6

This is the most famous jump in Quake III Arena, and you' ll most likely need a few tries to get it done. You need to be a good circle jumper to do this one.

Enough talk, here is how you do it :

- Get on the bridge and to position A, look in the direction of B.

- Run in the direction of B on the right side of the bridge (no strafe jumping or extra speed necessary).

- When you reach B, perform a perfect Circle Jump 90 degrees to the left. You should touch the ground on the other side of the bridge, at position C. Btw : it is NOT nesessary to do the turn to the left at B that prepares the circle jump very fast or very sharp. Just do a good jump.

- Don't land at C, just touch the ground and continue with a strafe jump into the direction of the Rail Gun. You may want to land on the small ledge at the wall to the right.

Try this for a few times until you get it done - it took me about 30 minutes in CPMA (but i was not new to Strafe and Circle Jumping then). If you don't get it done wait for a few days while practicing Strafe and Circle Jumps at other locations - it can be quite enerving to try a very hard jump and not get it done for hours.

If you've got it : congratulations, you just mastered what i consider one of the most challenging jumps in q3a.
